Canajoharie saw us our first daytime rain. Started right after breakfast, lasted almost two hours, and that was it for rain. Beastly hot day, so I just went straight there, with no exploring.

Woke in Rome, chased two railroad bridges in town. Went into Utica to take the F.X. Matts brewery tour, and look at some stree-running tracks. Rode up and up the hill in Canajoharie to get to the high school.

Rode all the way from Syracuse to Rome today. Some interesting things in Canastota, which I had already explored. Buzzed through Oneida, only to realize that I had to backtrack to see what I wanted to see. And even then I couldn't get back there; not even walking. Saw the Erie Canal Museum in Rome. Their railroad is up and running, but they were only running the diesel today. Found some portions of the NYO&W still in rails dating from 1921. Slept at Fort Stanwix.

Woke in Seneca Falls. Tried to ride a railbed out of town, but it's too overgrown in the heat of the summer. Might try to ride it again in the spring. Lots of ATV traffic, so not beautiful. Lots of interesting railbeds in Weedsport; some of them official trails. Spent the night at Burnet Park Zoo on the baseball diamond.

Did no extra exploring today since I've already looked around in this area earlier. Found a pair of abutments in Newark that I had failed to look at earlier. Spent the night in Seneca Falls, with a wine tasting, and band music and ice cream.

Woke up in Medina, headed to Albion. Did some exploring there (found an interesting industrial siding with a wall and door through which the train went, but there's no barrier keeping you from either side of the wall.) There was a rest stop in Holley, and some trolley railbed and station converted into someone's garage. Explored a bit in Brockport, and could barely see what I wanted to see (the eastern end of the Falls Road). Also explored in Spencerport to see what bridges remained. They're taking the downtown bridge later this season, and already removed the Trimmer Road bridge. :( Buzzed through Rochester and spent the night in Pittsford.

Started off the CTEC in Buffalo. Rode out to the Riverwalk up to Tonawanda, when Lockport by lunch, took a canal boat ride through the locks (my first ever combine lock), went underneath the upside-down bridge, then rode up to Medina. Visited the railroad museum, which is mostly an extremely long (one football field's length) model railroad. Checked out some of the town's tracks.

Mostly, people were awake by 5:30AM and to bed by 10:00PM. Not big partiers, these.
